Radialis Indicis Artery

arteria radialis indicis

The radialis indicis artery supplies the radial side of the index finger — the side used for precision pinch against the thumb. Its preservation is critical in radial index finger reconstruction. The index pulp — with its high-density mechanoreceptors for pinch — is supplied by this vessel and the first dorsal metacarpal artery.

Clinical Notes

The first dorsal metacarpal artery flap (kite flap) based on the first dorsal metacarpal artery (a dorsal branch of the radialis indicis) provides sensate dorsal index skin for thumb tip reconstruction. The flap's arc of rotation and its sensory innervation from the dorsal branch of the radial nerve make it ideal for thumb pulp coverage.
