Dorsal Carpal Radial Vein

vena carpalis dorsalis radialis

Clinical Notes

The anatomical snuffbox vein (dorsal carpal radial vein) is the preferred site for intraosseous vascular access when antecubital veins are unavailable in trauma. Snuffbox cannulation provides access to the cephalic vein without ligating the vessel. Thrombosis of this vein after cannulation produces first web space swelling that resolves spontaneously.
