Buck Fascia

fascia penis profunda

Buck fascia is the deep fascia of the penis, a strong layer that wraps the two corpora cavernosa and, in a separate split, the corpus spongiosum. It lies deep to the loose dartos layer and carries the deep dorsal vein, the dorsal arteries and the dorsal nerves on the top of the penis.

Biomechanics

Function & Actions

Binds the erectile bodies together and contains the dorsal neurovascular bundle.

Clinical Relevance

Clinical Notes

Buck fascia determines where blood or urine collects after injury. If a urethral rupture or penile fracture stays inside it, swelling is limited to the penis shaft; if it tears through, fluid spreads under Colles fascia into the scrotum and perineum in a butterfly pattern. The dorsal nerve block is placed deep to this fascia.

Pathology

Common Injuries & Conditions

Penile Fracture

Rupture of the tunica albuginea during erection. Bleeding confined by Buck fascia causes a swollen, bruised shaft; if the fascia tears, bruising spreads to the scrotum and perineum.

Urethral Rupture With Extravasation

Tearing of the spongy urethra lets urine and blood escape. Its spread depends on whether Buck fascia remains intact.
