Supraventricular Crest

crista supraventricularis

The supraventricular crest is a thick muscular ridge in the right ventricle that separates the rough inflow region below the tricuspid valve from the smooth outflow tract (conus arteriosus) leading to the pulmonary valve.

Anatomical Data

Structure & Supply

LocationRoof of the right ventricle, between the tricuspid and pulmonary valve orifices
Parts
  • Muscular ridge
  • Septal and parietal bands
Nerve SupplyCardiac plexus
Blood SupplyRight coronary artery (conus branch); Left anterior descending artery (septal branches)
Venous drainage
Lymphatic drainage
  • Tracheobronchial nodes
Biomechanics

Function & Actions

Divides inflow from outflow in the right ventricle and helps direct blood towards the pulmonary trunk.

Clinical Relevance

Clinical Notes

Malalignment of this region is central to tetralogy of Fallot, where the outflow tract is narrowed. Its muscle can thicken and obstruct outflow in some congenital heart conditions.

Pathology

Common Injuries & Conditions

Tetralogy of Fallot

Congenital defect with right ventricular outflow obstruction, ventricular septal defect, overriding aorta and right ventricular hypertrophy.
