The common palmar digital nerves arise from the median nerve (fingers 1-3 and radial half of 4) and the superficial branch of the ulnar nerve (fingers 4-5), running through the palm deep to the palmar fascia before dividing into proper digital nerves at the web spaces.

Carpal tunnel syndrome compresses these nerves proximally, producing the classic median distribution dysaesthesiae. Laceration of common digital nerves in the palm requires microsurgical repair for sensory recovery.
Transection of a common palmar digital nerve in the palm producing numbness in two adjacent finger surfaces, requiring microsurgical epineural repair for sensory restoration.
