musculus temporoparietalis detail

The temporoparietalis is a variable thin muscle connecting the temporal fascia to the galeal aponeurosis. It is part of the scalp's muscular system and contributes to scalp tension and ear elevation.

Nerve: Facial nerve — temporal branch (VII) Blood Supply: Superficial temporal artery Region: Head & Skull

Function & Actions

ActionsTenses the scalp and raises the ear; Assists frontalis in eyebrow elevation
Clinical Relevance

Clinical Notes

The temporoparietalis is the key muscle within the temporoparietal fascia flap — its fascial component (the TPFF) is harvested for ear, scalp, and orbital reconstruction. The temporal branch of the facial nerve runs just deep to the TPFF, making careful dissection essential during flap harvest.

Palpation

Not separately palpable from the temporal muscle.

Temporoparietalis in TPFF Harvest
