Palmar Ulnotriquetral Ligament

ligamentum ulnotriquetrale palmare

The palmar ulnotriquetral ligament runs from the palmar ulna (fovea and distal ulna) to the triquetrum, forming the ulnar wrist equivalent of the palmar radiocarpal ligaments. It is a component of the TFCC complex and is assessed by ulnar wrist arthrography.

Region: Forearm
Biomechanics

Function & Actions

Primary ulnar-side wrist stabiliser; resists triquetral dorsal displacement; the ulnar component of the palmar extrinsic wrist ligament system.

Clinical Relevance

Clinical Notes

Disruption of the palmar ulnotriquetral ligament in TFCC injuries produces ulnar wrist pain and triquetral instability. MRI arthrography demonstrates the palmar UTq tear at the foveal attachment, the most common site. TFCC foveal repair reconstructs this ligament alongside the triangular fibrocartilage proper.

Palmar UTq Tear in TFCC Injury

Palmar ulnotriquetral ligament disruption producing ulnar wrist pain and triquetral instability, managed by arthroscopic TFCC foveal repair.
