The ulnocarpal meniscus homologue is a fibrous or fibrocartilaginous structure at the ulnar aspect of the TFCC, lying between the triquetrum and ulnar head. It is a variable structure representing a vestigial meniscus.
Contributes to the ulnocarpal fibrocartilage complex, provides some ulnocarpal congruity, and represents a potential pain generator in the ulnar wrist when inflamed or torn.
Ulnocarpal meniscus homologue tears produce ulnar wrist pain that may be confused with TFCC pathology. Arthroscopic assessment demonstrates the homologue as a loose frond or flap of tissue on the ulnar aspect of the TFCC. Debridement addresses symptomatic tears.
Flap tear of the vestigial meniscoid tissue producing ulnar wrist pain reproduced by ulnar deviation, treated by arthroscopic debridement.
