Trapezoid Ligament

ligamentum trapezoideum

The trapezoid ligament is the anterior, larger component of the coracoclavicular ligament complex, running from the lateral coracoid to the trapezoid line of the clavicle. Together with the conoid ligament it suspends the scapula from the clavicle. In AC joint separations, both trapezoid and conoid ligaments are disrupted in Grade III injuries and above.

Clinical Notes

AC joint reconstruction for Grade III-VI injuries uses a coracoclavicular ligament reconstruction technique. The Weaver-Dunn procedure transfers the coracoacromial ligament to replace the coracoclavicular ligaments. Anatomical CC ligament reconstruction using two grafts replicating the separate trapezoid and conoid orientations provides superior biomechanical results.
