Transverse Band UCL

fasciculus transversus ligamenti collateralis medialis cubiti

The transverse band of the UCL runs between the medial coronoid and the medial olecranon, parallel to the joint line. It contributes minimally to valgus stability because both attachments are on the ulna.

Region: Upper Arm
Biomechanics

Function & Actions

Provides some articular congruity to the ulnohumeral joint rather than valgus resistance, as both its attachments are on the ulna. The transverse band deepens the trochlear notch slightly.

Clinical Relevance

Clinical Notes

The transverse band is not surgically reconstructed as it contributes negligible valgus stability. It is identified during medial elbow approaches to distinguish it from the anterior and posterior bands that require repair or reconstruction.

Transverse Band Anatomy in UCL Reconstruction

Recognition of the transverse UCL band during medial elbow surgery to correctly identify the anterior and posterior bands requiring functional reconstruction.
