Thigh Perivascular Fascia

fascia perivascularis femoris

The thigh perivascular fascia is the fascial sheath surrounding the femoral vessels as they course through the femoral triangle and adductor canal, providing protection and a potential space for haematoma containment after vascular injury.

Region: Thigh
Biomechanics

Function & Actions

Protects the femoral artery and vein within their fascial sheath, contains post-procedural haematoma after femoral access procedures, and provides the surgical plane for dissection around femoral vessels in bypass surgery.

Clinical Relevance

Clinical Notes

Pseudo-aneurysm formation after cardiac catheterisation occurs within the perivascular fascial space — contained initially by the fascia before potentially expanding to produce a pulsatile groin mass. Ultrasound-guided thrombin injection collapses the pseudo-aneurysm cavity within the fascial boundary.

Pathology

Common Injuries & Conditions

Femoral Pseudo-aneurysm Contained by Perivascular Fascia

Post-catheterisation pseudo-aneurysm forming within the femoral perivascular fascial space, managed by ultrasound-guided thrombin injection or surgical repair if expanding.
