Peroneal Trochlea Ligament

ligamentum trochleae fibularis calcanei

The peroneal trochlea (tubercle) ligament is the fibrous band securing the inferior peroneal retinaculum to the peroneal trochlea of the calcaneus, maintaining the separate tunnels for the peroneal longus and brevis tendons.

Region: Foot & Ankle
Biomechanics

Function & Actions

Maintains the anatomical separation of the peroneal longus and brevis tendons around the peroneal trochlea, preventing tendon crossover.

Clinical Relevance

Clinical Notes

Peroneal trochlea hypertrophy enlarges this structure and can compress the adjacent peroneal tendons, producing peroneal tenosynovitis at the trochlea level treated by trochlear resection.

Pathology

Common Injuries & Conditions

Peroneal Trochlea Enlargement Compressing Peroneal Tendons

Hypertrophied peroneal trochlea causing tendon compression and tenosynovitis, managed by trochlear resection and inferior retinaculum reconstruction.
