DRUJ Dorsal Capsular Ligament

ligamentum radioulnare dorsale

The dorsal DRUJ capsular ligament is the dorsal reinforcement of the DRUJ capsule, running from the dorsal ulnar head to the dorsal sigmoid notch margin of the radius, reinforced by the dorsal radioulnar ligament of the TFCC.

Region: Forearm
Biomechanics

Function & Actions

Resists volar ulnar head displacement during pronation, stabilises the DRUJ in the pronated position, and is the primary constraint against ulnar head volar subluxation.

Clinical Relevance

Clinical Notes

Dorsal DRUJ capsular tightening contributes to DRUJ stiffness in the pronated position — a component of post-traumatic forearm rotation stiffness. Dorsal capsular release is included in DRUJ contracture release surgery.

Pathology

Common Injuries & Conditions

Dorsal DRUJ Capsular Contracture

Post-traumatic dorsal DRUJ capsular fibrosis limiting forearm pronation, released during DRUJ contracture surgery to restore rotation.
