Calcaneocuboid Ligament (Dorsal)

ligamentum calcaneocuboideum dorsale

The dorsal calcaneocuboid ligament provides the dorsal stability of the calcaneocuboid joint, forming part of the lateral column stabilising complex. Together with the long and short plantar ligaments it maintains lateral arch integrity. Isolated calcaneocuboid joint injury from lateral midfoot compression produces lateral midfoot pain.

Clinical Notes

Calcaneocuboid joint pathology from degenerative change or post-traumatic arthritis produces lateral midfoot pain reproduced by direct joint line palpation and passive midfoot manipulation. Intra-articular injection confirms the joint as the pain source. Calcaneocuboid arthrodesis provides reliable pain relief for refractory lateral column arthritis.
