A small subcutaneous bursa over the supraorbital ridge, developing from repetitive pressure of spectacle frames or helmets against the supraorbital rim. It presents as a soft, fluctuant swelling at the medial orbital brow.
Supraorbital bursitis is most common in patients who wear heavy spectacles or safety goggles. It must be distinguished from dermoid cyst (fixed to periosteum) and sebaceous cyst (attached to skin). Aspiration is usually curative; infected bursae require incision and drainage.
Pressure-induced bursal swelling over the supraorbital rim from spectacle frame compression, managed by frame adjustment and aspiration.
