Supinator Bursa

bursa musculi supinatoris

A bursa between the supinator muscle and the underlying radial neck and radial head, reducing friction as the supinator wraps around the radius during forearm rotation. It lies in close proximity to the posterior interosseous nerve as it passes through the supinator.

Region: Forearm
Clinical Relevance

Clinical Notes

Supinator bursitis may contribute to lateral elbow and proximal forearm pain and can compress the posterior interosseous nerve, producing symptoms overlapping with radial tunnel syndrome. Ultrasound identifies bursal fluid adjacent to the supinator. Aspiration relieves both pain and any associated nerve compression. The bursa is encountered during supinator release for posterior interosseous nerve decompression.

Pathology

Common Injuries & Conditions

Supinator Bursitis
