A deep bursa between the coracoid tip and the underlying subscapularis tendon and anterior glenohumeral capsule, separate from the more superficial coracohumeral bursa. It becomes inflamed in subcoracoid impingement syndrome.
The subcoracoid deep bursa is distinct from the subscapularis bursa at the lesser tuberosity and is specifically compressed in coracoid impingement. A coracohumeral interval less than 6 mm is diagnostic of subcoracoid stenosis. Ultrasound-guided injection into this bursa provides both diagnostic confirmation and therapeutic relief. Coracoplasty (coracoid tip resection) decompresses this bursa as part of subcoracoid impingement surgery.
Bursal inflammation between the coracoid tip and subscapularis from subcoracoid stenosis, producing anterior shoulder pain with combined flexion-adduction-internal rotation, responsive to injection and coracoplasty in refractory cases.
