Quadratus Lumborum Iliac Insertion Bursa

A small bursa at the iliac insertion of the quadratus lumborum, where the muscle attaches to the posterior iliac crest. It reduces friction as the QL contracts during lateral trunk flexion and forced expiration.

Region: Lower Back
Clinical Relevance

Clinical Notes

QL iliac insertion bursitis contributes to posterior iliac crest and lower lumbar pain in manual workers, firefighters, and athletes who perform repetitive lateral trunk loading. It is adjacent to the iliolumbar ligament and QL origin bursa already documented. Ultrasound-guided injection at the QL iliac insertion targets this specific bursa.
