Pectoralis Minor Coracoid Bursa

bursa subtendinea musculi pectoralis minoris

A bursa between the pectoralis minor tendon and the coracoid process, cushioning the tendon as it inserts onto the coracoid tip. It may be involved in subcoracoid impingement and pectoralis minor syndrome.

Region: Chest
Clinical Relevance

Clinical Notes

Pectoralis minor coracoid bursitis is identified in subcoracoid impingement syndrome alongside pectoralis minor tightness, neurovascular bundle compression, and coracoid tip pain. Stretching the pectoralis minor into shoulder extension and external rotation provokes symptoms. Ultrasound-guided bursal injection confirms the diagnosis.

Pathology

Common Injuries & Conditions

Subcoracoid Impingement

Compression of the pectoralis minor tendon and bursa against the coracoid process during forward flexion and internal rotation, producing anterior shoulder pain mimicking rotator cuff impingement.
