An inconstant bursa between the anterior surface of the interosseous membrane and the overlying deep forearm flexors, reducing friction as the muscle bellies move against the membrane during pronation and supination.
The interosseous bursa of the forearm is rarely identified clinically but may become distended in inflammatory arthropathies and after forearm compartment syndrome. It can communicate with the radioulnar joints via small perforations in the interosseous membrane. Ultrasound identifies the bursa as a thin fluid collection between the membrane and the overlying flexor digitorum profundus.
Bursal distension between the interosseous membrane and deep forearm flexors producing diffuse deep forearm aching worsened by gripping and forearm rotation, rarely requiring specific treatment.
