A bursa beneath the gracilis tendon insertion at the medial tibial metaphysis, between the gracilis and the adjacent sartorius and semitendinosus tendons of the pes anserinus. It contributes to the medial knee pes anserinus bursal complex.
Gracilis insertion bursitis coexists with sartorius and semitendinosus bursitis in the pes anserinus complex. The gracilis tendon is a commonly harvested graft for ACL reconstruction and MCL repair. Its distal bursa is exposed and may be disrupted during harvest. Post-harvest gracilis insertion pain from bursal irritation may complicate ACL reconstruction recovery.
Bursal inflammation at the gracilis tibial insertion after gracilis tendon harvest for ACL reconstruction, producing persistent medial knee pain managed with injection into the harvest site.
