A small bursa between the humeral head of flexor carpi ulnaris at its medial epicondyle attachment and the overlying common flexor aponeurosis, adjacent to the cubital tunnel. The FCU humeral head forms the anterior wall of the cubital tunnel through which the ulnar nerve passes.
FCU humeral head bursitis occurs adjacent to the cubital tunnel and may contribute to ulnar nerve irritation in cubital tunnel syndrome. The cubital tunnel retinaculum and the FCU arch both compress the ulnar nerve as it passes between the humeral and ulnar heads of FCU. Injection at this level must be placed away from the ulnar nerve. FCU release as part of cubital tunnel decompression addresses this bursa simultaneously.
Bursal inflammation at the FCU humeral head contributing to ulnar nerve compression at the medial elbow, producing ring and little finger paresthesiae exacerbated by prolonged elbow flexion.
