Acromial Tip Bursa

bursa subcutanea acromii

A small subcutaneous bursa overlying the acromion tip, between the skin and the bony acromial prominence. It develops from repetitive pressure from backpack straps, shoulder pads, or direct overhead carrying.

Region: Chest
Clinical Relevance

Clinical Notes

Acromial tip bursitis is common in soldiers (rucksack marching), construction workers, and contact sport athletes. It presents as a localised, fluctuant swelling directly over the acromion tip, distinct from the subacromial bursa which lies deep to the deltoid. Padding, pressure relief, and aspiration resolve most cases. Infected acromial bursae may require surgical drainage.
