Cuneocerebellar Tract

tractus cuneocerebellaris

The cuneocerebellar tract carries unconscious position sense from the arm and upper body to the cerebellum. It is the upper-limb counterpart of the dorsal spinocerebellar tract.

Anatomical Data

Structure & Connections

LocationFrom the accessory cuneate nucleus in the lower medulla to the cerebellum via the inferior cerebellar peduncle
Parts
  • Accessory (lateral) cuneate nucleus
  • Uncrossed fibres
Connections
Blood SupplyVertebral artery; Posterior inferior cerebellar artery
Biomechanics

Function & Actions

Supplies the cerebellum with muscle spindle and tendon information from the same-side arm and neck for coordination.

Clinical Relevance

Clinical Notes

Lesions here or in the inferior cerebellar peduncle cause incoordination of the same-side arm, as in lateral medullary syndrome.

Pathology

Common Injuries & Conditions

Lateral Medullary Syndrome

Brainstem stroke with same-side limb ataxia from damage to spinocerebellar inputs.
