The pubis is the anterior portion of the hip bone, forming the pubic symphysis at the midline with its counterpart and contributing the pubic tubercle and pectineal line that are important landmarks for inguinal anatomy and hernia repair.
The pubis forms the anterior hip bone and the two pubic bones meet at the pubic symphysis anteriorly. Osteitis pubis from repetitive microtrauma at the pubic symphysis produces midline groin pain that is a component of athletic pubalgia. The pubic ramus is fractured in pelvic ring injuries and insufficiency fractures in osteoporotic patients produce acute groin pain that can be confused with hip joint pathology. The obturator foramen, formed by the pubis and ischium, transmits the obturator neurovascular bundle.
