Flexor Digiti Minimi Brevis Tendon (Hand)

tendo musculi flexoris digiti minimi brevis manus

The flexor digiti minimi brevis of the hand arises from the hook of the hamate and the flexor retinaculum, lying lateral to the abductor digiti minimi. Its tendon joins that of abductor digiti minimi to insert on the ulnar side of the base of the little finger proximal phalanx. It is supplied by the deep branch of the ulnar nerve.

Clinical Relevance

Clinical Notes

The deep branch of the ulnar nerve passes between the flexor digiti minimi brevis and the abductor digiti minimi near the hook of the hamate, where it can be compressed. Fractures of the hook of the hamate can disrupt the origin of the muscle and irritate the nerve. Weakness of little finger metacarpophalangeal flexion is part of ulnar nerve palsy.

Pathology

Common Injuries & Conditions

Hook of Hamate Fracture

A fracture of the hook of the hamate, common in golf and racquet sports, disrupts the muscle origin and may irritate the deep branch of the ulnar nerve.
