The intermeniscal (transverse) ligament connects the anterior horns of both menisci across the anterior intercondylar area, present in approximately 60% of knees.

Links the two menisci anteriorly, potentially coordinating their movement, and may restrict anterior meniscal displacement.
Identified during arthroscopy as the cord crossing the anterior notch, it must not be mistaken for a free body. On MRI it appears as a low-signal band just anterior to the ACL and can mimic a tear of the anterior meniscal horn where it meets the meniscus. It may obstruct portal placement during ACL reconstruction.
The ligament may obstruct anteromedial portal placement or tibial tunnel drilling and requires retraction or division during ACL reconstruction.
