The intermeniscal (transverse) ligament connects the anterior horns of both menisci across the anterior intercondylar area, present in approximately 60% of knees.
Links the two menisci anteriorly, potentially coordinating their movement, and may restrict anterior meniscal displacement.
Identified during arthroscopy as the cord crossing the anterior notch — must not be mistaken for a free body. May obstruct portal placement during ACL reconstruction.
The ligament may obstruct anteromedial portal placement or tibial tunnel drilling and requires retraction or division during ACL reconstruction.
