Triquetrocapitate Ligament

ligamentum triquetroeapitatum

The triquetrocapitate ligament is a palmar extrinsic ligament connecting the triquetrum to the capitate, forming part of the ulnar arm of the palmar V ligament (arcuate ligament) system.

Region: Hand & Wrist
Biomechanics

Function & Actions

Provides ulnar midcarpal stability, contributes to the ulnar arm of the palmar midcarpal ligament system, and resists VISI (volar intercalated segment instability) deformity of the lunate.

Clinical Relevance

Clinical Notes

The triquetrocapitate ligament is deficient in ulnar-sided midcarpal instability (VISI pattern), where the lunate flexes volarly rather than extending. Triquetrocapitate ligament reconstruction combined with lunotriquetral fusion addresses refractory VISI instability.

Pathology

Common Injuries & Conditions

Triquetrocapitate Ligament Deficiency in VISI

Ulnar midcarpal instability from triquetrocapitate and lunotriquetral ligament laxity producing volar lunate tilting, managed by triquetrolunate fusion and midcarpal ligament reconstruction.
