Linea Semilunaris Bursa

bursa lineae semilunaris

A small bursa along the linea semilunaris — the curved fibrous line at the lateral rectus sheath border — where the oblique aponeuroses fuse lateral to the rectus muscle. It may develop from repetitive twisting movements loading this fascial junction.

Region: Abdomen
Clinical Relevance

Clinical Notes

Linea semilunaris bursitis produces lateral abdominal pain at the rectus border, reproduced by trunk rotation against resistance. It is distinguished from Spigelian hernia (hernia through the semilunar line) by the absence of a palpable defect. Ultrasound identifies the bursa in the aponeurotic layer without fascial disruption.
