Occasional small bursae within the layers of the broad ligament of the uterus, between the anterior and posterior peritoneal leaves. These may form in the parametrium adjacent to the uterine vessels and are associated with endometriotic implants and parametrial cysts.
Broad ligament bursae are identified incidentally on pelvic MRI or during laparoscopy for chronic pelvic pain or endometriosis. They may be difficult to distinguish from parametrial cysts, lymphoceles, or endometriomas on imaging. Their clinical significance is usually minor unless they compress adjacent structures. Laparoscopic excision is straightforward when symptomatic.
Fluid collection within the broad ligament from bursal or Mullerian remnant origin producing chronic pelvic pressure, requiring MRI characterisation before laparoscopic management.
